A signed and numbered artist photobook bringing together Ania Ready’s photography with the writing of Polish-born modernist author Sophie Gaudier-Brzeska (1872–1925).
Through staged and performative photography, I Also Fight Windmills explores displacement, creativity, loneliness and social exclusion, while bringing renewed attention to a writer whose work has long been overshadowed by that of her partner, sculptor Henri Gaudier-Brzeska.
The book has been designed so that photography and writing occupy distinct physical spaces: photographs appear on larger, heavier pages, while Sophie’s texts are printed on smaller yellow pages inspired by her surviving archive. Each copy also includes a hand-cut page referencing the first draft of one of her novels.
